Type of training : On line

Background
Cities face dramatically changing conditions due to rapid urbanization and inadequate infrastructure that increases the gap between water demand and supply, loss of impermeable surfaces and overexploitation of aquifers and rupture of the water cycle. These concerns are further compounded by the increasing incidence of flooding attributed to the increase in the built environment as well as the impact of climate change. All of this impacts the health/flow of the rivers. It is important to take up the challenge of controlling and wisely using natural resources to reduce our ecological footprint. This can be done using a Water Sensitive Urban Design and Planning (WSUDP) approach that integrates the urban water cycle, water supply, wastewater, stormwater and water management underground. This approach contributes to sustainability and livability, especially when considered as part of an overall urban strategy. This involves intervention at different scales – city, neighbourhood/district or individual buildings.

This online training is part of a series of activities planned under the 3-year CSE program – “Capacity Building Initiative Focused on “Making Ganges Basin Cities Water Aware” . As part of this initiative, a series of – webinars, training workshops (online and residential), field exposure tours, knowledge conclaves aimed at engaging over 1,300 state/municipal officials and other industry players . The program is supported by National Mission Clean Ganga and is part of the NMCG’s ongoing series of efforts to ensure the convergence of the NamamiGange mission with national flagship urban missions (AMRUT, Smart Cities, Swachh Bharat Mission, HRIDAY, NULM ) and other missions (Atal Bhujal Yojana, Jal Jeewan Mission, Jal Shakti Mission) at state/city level in the Ganges basin states.

About the training
The training will focus on the Water Sensitive Urban Design and Planning (WSUDP) approach which integrates the urban water cycle, water supply, wastewater, stormwater and water management underground.

Objective
