RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – The Virginia Employment Commission’s online unemployment application system has been down since Nov. 8 and is expected to return on Monday.

However, the system was not back on Monday or Tuesday. Now Labor Secretary Megan Healy says he will be back on Wednesday.

In the meantime, VEC spokeswoman Joyce Fogg said people could make their complaints over the phone. Anyone receiving unemployment can call 800-897-5630 file their weekly application. Fogg said the ability to file online would be restored “very soon.”

Since Tuesday evening, the telephone number is now also registered on the VEC website in a banner at the top of the page. People should make sure they have their PIN handy when they apply.

The closure was planned to allow for the implementation of a more modernized unemployment system.

According to Healy, those who missed the Nov. 8 certification deadline to file their weekly application could face payment delays, which can be resolved once the modernized system goes live.

Other functions of the VEC, including call functions and employment assistance, were not interrupted by the shutdown, according to the agency.
