The sustainable management of solid waste is one of the main functions of all municipal authorities around the world. Municipal authorities must therefore plan, implement and control methodically and judiciously all services concerning municipal solid waste management. However, cities are constantly under pressure to meet these challenges with limited financial and technical resources and limited infrastructure availability. In particular, the collection and transport of municipal solid waste is an essential part of the solid waste management value chain. All other associated processes, including treatment, recycling and scientific disposal, can only function effectively if the collection and transport of waste is properly planned and executed. The efficiency of collection and transport must be very high to ensure that all waste generated in the city is subjected to appropriate treatment, that recyclable materials are extracted and that inert materials and rejects are scientifically disposed of in the landfills. There is a need to design an efficient mechanism and strengthen the existing solid waste collection and transport system in order to make the system more robust, well organized, efficient and intelligent.
As part of its ongoing collaboration, the Center for Science and Environment (CSE) invites municipal officials and urban managers in Tanzania to an exclusive one-day online training program on efficient collection and transport. The aim of the program is to provide a better understanding of the critical aspects of collection and transport in the waste management value chain.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion upon successful completion of the program.
