A youth-led network that works to promote the voices and meaningful engagement of young people is helping run a series of online food safety and gardening trainings to help people sustain themselves through these trying times.

The Alliance for Future Generations – Fiji has partnered with the Foundation for Integrated Rural Enterprises and Development or FRIEND, a local NGO based in Lautoka for this initiative.

They had their first online training session yesterday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the video conferencing tool – ZOOM.

The coordinator of the Alliance for Future Generations – Fiji, Lavetanalagi Seru, explains that the aim of the online training is to enable people to put food on the table, but also if there is a surplus, they can trade or sell it to earn income.

Seru says they contacted FRIEND as they have the technical expertise and experience to deliver this training on short and long term food security plans that households can implement and what types of crops and of vegetables that can be planted and harvested. short term long term.

He says the online training is free and open to everyone and especially encourages young people to register.

Seru says there will be posters on their Facebook page – Alliance for Future Generations – Fiji indicating when the online training will be conducted and that people can use the meeting ID on the posters to join.
