Bless Online Development Roadmap Interview

MMORPG fans are well aware of just how stale and sterile the genre has been in recent years. Western developers and publishers, after unsuccessfully pursuing the runaway success of Blizzard’s World of Warcraft, have largely stopped creating triple-A MMORPGs in favor of the latest trends such as MOBA, survival, and most recently Battle Royale titles.

These days, it’s mostly Korean development studios that create big-budget MMORPGs. One of them is finally about to make its debut on the western coasts; I’m talking about Bless Online, which is slated to launch on Steam later this year. We’ve included the title in our list of the most anticipated multiplayer games of 2018 and to bring you even more exclusive information, we had the chance to interview Jae-hoon Jeon, the game director of Bless Online at Neowiz Bless. Studio. Enjoy!

How long do you think you should be on Steam Early Access before full release?

It will take time and resources to fine tune and stabilize the game. We will do our best to get it right.
full version ready in about six months after early access. Early access will be like a soft launch,
therefore no progress will be erased for those who participate.

You said in the last Developer Update that you intended to provide “horizontal growth goals”. Can you give us some examples of what this could be?

Vertical growth includes items and levels and horizontal growth includes increased combat
effectiveness in developing a character’s abilities and skills. In other words, we are developing Bless to
give various combat strategies & tactics based on how a player wants to play, and each class’
abilities and skills even if they have the same level and the same items.

Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons in February 2022, will add Fishing and the Kingdom of Cantha

Are you going to cut down on the so called “grind” for this western version?

One area we focus on is creating an upgrade experience that offers a variety of rewards
as players work towards the maximum level. It is important to note that the Bless upgrade content is
focused on quests, story, and dungeons – not crushing crowds. This way we think fans of
modern MMORPGs will be quite at home in Bless.

Will there be any notable improvements to the game’s netcode?

We will continuously work on optimizing the stability of our game. We are working hard to
improve current UI loading speed and sudden frame drops during gameplay.
is a big reason for the redesign of Bless Online, given how vital performance is to our RVR and
Large scale PVP.

What about the graphics quality of Bless Online? Have you added any new visual effects or improved textures etc. ? Have you improved the combat / movement animations?

We are constantly working on improving the quality of graphics. There will be graphic changes
in combat as well as movement animations in the new combat system.

Are you planning to introduce regional lockdown for territories outside of North America and Europe?

We do not plan to lock the game by region outside of North America and Europe. We want
make sure everyone can enjoy our game from any region as much as possible. There are exceptions to
this is due to our obligations towards existing partners who publish in certain territories.

Will there be controller support in Bless Online?

It’s not in our current plan, but we never say never!

Are there any plans to reintroduce Siren and / or Iblis-Feyadin races and if so, do you have an ETA for this?

In the current schedule, we plan to release a new race update for early 2019, but it could be
amended. If and when we are ready to announce it, you will be the first to know!

Will it be possible to trade directly with other players?

Direct trading is not possible with the current Bless Online, but we are seriously considering it, as
many gamers like to do this stuff on their own without needing an auction house.

Does the player / guild host a feature that may be introduced in a future Bless Online update?

Yes, we are designing housing features in Bless Online, as this has always been a goal for our
team. We will give you detailed development information in a Dev Talk in the future.

Going forward, are you planning any brand new PvE and / or PvP content to introduce after launch? If so, can you share some details?

Yes in fact. Shortly after launch, the PvE content of the 20-man Field Boss and 40-man Raid Boss will be
added. High level open field PvP, 15vs15, 10vs10 battlefield and full scale warfare system will be
be added for PvP. In addition, we also design and develop other new features … but we cannot
reveal everything again!

Can you tell us about your monetization plans, especially with regard to the in-game cash shop?

We haven’t finalized our monetization plan, but we understand your concerns about P2W. Quite simply, it will not happen and we will post the details once it is finalized.

A while back there was a rumor about a potential Bless Online release on consoles. Is this something that you are still considering that could happen at some point?

Neowiz is interested in Cross-platform and is investing in R&D (Research and Development) for a possible console version, but we do not yet have any announcements for this specific objective.

Thank you for your time.
