‘Black Widow’ Helps Disney Raise $ 125 Million In Online Revenue, Marketing & Advertising News, AND BrandEquity

Walt Disney said in a court filing Friday that he made $ 125 million in online revenue from the Marvel superhero movie “Black Widow,” three weeks after being sued by star Scarlett Johansson.

Last month, the actress sued Disney, alleging that the company had broken its contract by offering the film to stream at the same time it was shown in theaters.

The entertainment company, in the case, responded to Johansson’s request for a civil lawsuit in Los Angeles by asking that the lawsuit be referred to arbitration in New York.

Johansson’s lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, argued that “Black Widow’s” double-release strategy had reduced his compensation.

Disney had said there was “no basis” for the lawsuit, adding that the film’s online release “dramatically improved (Johansson’s) ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $ 20 million that she has received to date “.

The outcome of the lawsuit could have wider ramifications in the entertainment industry as media companies attempt to expand their streaming services by offering premium programming to attract subscribers.
