A new online system was introduced yesterday at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to allow arriving passengers to leave the airport in 20 seconds.

This eliminates the need for passengers to languish in queues, deal with a lot of paperwork, or transmit information using other devices.

The online system was launched at the airport by the Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Export Zone Development, DV Chanaka.

The Minister of State after introducing the system addressed the media said it was due to the spread of the COVID pandemic around the world, passengers arriving at the airport were required to report to the health officials responsible for the delay.

“According to this new online system, the time has been reduced to 20 seconds,” said the Minister of State.

“Passengers visiting Sri Lanka can provide their contact details upon arrival or after reaching Katunayake Airport by accessing this system through the following link on www.airport.lk via https://www.airport.lk/ health_declaration / index.

Passengers can download their information by accessing the QR code displayed in the arrival hall.

As a result, their vaccine challenge card and the result of the PCR test performed 72 hours prior to arrival in Sri Lanka must be submitted online under this system. This eliminates the need for passengers to languish in queues, deal with a lot of paperwork, or transmit information using other devices.

This new system allows passengers to exit the airport in 20 seconds, thus minimizing the risk of becoming infected with Covid.

Also, the security guards who are on duty at the exit gate of the airport can present these facts through this methodology and these passengers will be able to leave the airport quickly.

The Minister of State also said Katunayake Airport will be fully digital by April 2022.
